Geraldo Rivera apologizes to Bette Midler after groping allegations

Fox Information correspondent Geraldo Rivera apologized on Friday to Bette Midler after she accused him earlier this week of drugging and groping her within the 1970s.

“Though I recall the time @BetteMidler has alluded to a lot in a different way than she, that doesn’t change the truth that she has a proper to talk out & demand an apology from me, for within the very least, publically [sic] embarrassing her all these years in the past,” Rivera wrote on Twitter. “Bette, I apologize.”

Midler has not publicly responded to Rivera’s apology. A consultant for her didn’t return a request for remark from CNN.

The incident between Rivera and Midler was thrown into the general public highlight this week after Rivera posted a string of controversial tweets about sexual harassment within the office. Following the firing of “At present” anchor Matt Lauer, Rivera tweeted that “information is a flirty enterprise” and the “present epidemic” of sexual harassment allegations is perhaps “criminalizing courtship.”

After Fox Information stated it was “troubled” by the tweets, Rivera apologized for his feedback.

However Rivera’s tweets prompted Twitter customers to dredge up an outdated interview of Midler talking with Barbara Walters. Within the clip, Midler stated she was assaulted by Rivera throughout an interview in 1970s.

“This was when [Rivera] was very kind of scorching,” Midler instructed Walters within the decades-old interview. “And he and his producer left the crew within the different room, they pushed me into my lavatory. They broke two poppers and pushed them beneath my nostril and proceeded to grope me.”

“Grope you?” Walters requested.

“Grope me,” Midler stated. “I didn’t supply myself up on the altar of Geraldo Rivera.”

After Twitter customers resurfaced the clip, Midler herself tweeted it on Wednesday, saying she felt as if the video was “a present from the universe.”

“Geraldo might have apologized for his tweets supporting Matt Lauer, however he has but to apologize for this,” she added, ending the tweet with the “#MeToo” hashtag.

Rivera also apologized on Friday for “Exposing Myself,” a e book he wrote many years in the past that chronicled his intercourse life. Passages from it additionally resurfaced this week after his feedback following Lauer’s firing. Rivera stated he was “embarrassed” by the e book and “deeply regretted its distasteful & disrespectful tone.”
